Free Federal Government Grants For College
The federal government has set up measures of ensuring that its citizens are well catered to in the form of grants and, therefore they are comfortable. One of such measures is the presentation of free government grants for college. Â College grants or school grants are educational aid given free of charge, without the idea of getting a refund. This is the reason as to why they are considered gifts to college students.
Today, many college students, cannot afford, to pay for their, education. This partly due to the rising tuition fees, since on average, a four year college course costs over 20,000 Dollars per year. Many students and their families cannot afford to part with this amount of money. There is, therefore, call for assistance from the federal government.
College grants are awarded depending on the academic excellence of the student and the student’s financial inability to afford a college education. It is, therefore, noted that, the government awards grants on merit and financial need. A number of programs have been set up by the federal government to ensure that students receive school grants whenever the need arises.
One of these programs is the Pell Grant program, which focuses on students whose families can barely afford tuition and other college necessities. The grant, therefore, focuses on the financially needy students.
Government grants are also available for veterans or people who have been in the armed forces. When these people want to go back to school and get a college education, the government makes sure that they are not denied the opportunity.
In addition, the federal government also provides grants to college students with disabilities. This is done, so as to ensure that the students have an level playing field with their peers. In some instances, the federal government does not award monetary grants. It can provide grants in the form of on campus jobs, where the student is given an opportunity to learn while working.
In this way, the student will be able to pay their own college fees as time goes on. Another awarded by the federal government is the Academic Competitiveness (AC) grant. This grant is usually awarded to students that have shown academic excellence also demonstrated exemplary leadership skills.
The SMART grant is also aid from the federal government. This one focuses on students who are interested in pursuing careers in engineering, computer science and mathematics among others. The grant, therefore, targets students that have proved academic excellence.
From the above, it is noted that the federal government offers free school grants or college grants to college students who need them. All that is required is that, the student qualifies for any one of the above free government grants.
